App privacy

In short: centino stores your financial data only encrypted on your Mac. We never see it. There is no user account, no server of ours and no analytics. The centino.app website has its own policy: Website privacy.

As of October 2026. The German version is legally binding.

There is no data protection officer; we are not required to have one. Please write to the address above with any questions.

Your financial data

centino stores accounts, transactions, categories and everything else in a file encrypted with AES-256, wherever you choose: on your Mac or, for example, in iCloud Drive. There is no user account and no server of ours. We never receive this data. You are responsible for the file and its backups.

Buying on the App Store

Downloads, the trial and purchases on the Mac App Store are handled by Apple (Apple Distribution International Ltd., Cork, Ireland) under Apple's privacy policy. We don't learn who you are: Apple only reports aggregated figures such as downloads and sales per country. We see App Store reviews with the name you give there.

European Central Bank exchange rates

For foreign currencies, centino downloads the reference rates from the European Central Bank's website (ecb.europa.eu). As with any website visit, the ECB sees your IP address. No financial data is sent.

Price links in portfolios

If you add a link to a price page for a security, centino opens it in your browser when you click it. That site's privacy policy then applies.

License (version from the website)

For the version available outside the App Store, a license key contains the name and email address it was issued to. centino checks it on your Mac without contacting a server. To issue licenses, we store name, email address and term for as long as the license is valid and for the statutory retention periods (contract, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Offer codes

If we send you a code that gets you centino on the App Store for free or at a discount, we note your name, email address and the code so we know who has which code (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). This list stays with us only and is deleted one year after the code expires. You redeem the code with Apple; we don't pass on your name.

No analytics, no crash reports of our own

centino itself sends no usage statistics, no crash reports and no advertising identifiers. If you have allowed sharing analytics with app developers in System Settings, Apple passes crash reports on to us without personal details. You control this under System Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.

Email support

Our email is hosted by Proton AG (Geneva, Switzerland). The European Commission has found that Switzerland provides an adequate level of data protection (Art. 45 GDPR). If you write to us, we use your email address and message only to reply (for questions about a purchase or license to perform the contract, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, otherwise legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete messages once the request is settled, at the latest after three years, unless a legal obligation requires us to keep them longer.

No automated decisions

We make no automated decisions about you and create no profiles. The app's reports run only on your Mac and only for you.

Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Write to support@centino.app.

You can also complain to a supervisory authority: in Austria the Data Protection Authority (dsb.gv.at), in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (edoeb.admin.ch), or the authority where you live in the EU.
